The bi-annual forum brought together Ghana’s development partners and key stakeholders in all the four modes of transport across the country to take stock of planned activities for the purpose of identifying deficits for strategic future correction within the sector.
Present at the Conference were the Ministers and Deputy Ministers of the Ministries of Railways Development; Transport; Roads and Highways and Aviation as well as Heads and officers of Agencies operating under these Ministries.
Hon. Joe Ghartey, the Minister for Railways Development was actively present with one of his Deputies, Hon. Andy Appiah-Kubi and some high-level officials of his Ministry. The four-day conference themed “Sustainability of Ghana’s Transport Sector – Exploring Innovative Solutions,” also offered a substantial platform for knowledge sharing in the area of best practices and safety standards.
The Guest Speaker, Minister for Planning, Professor Gyan Baffuor expressed concern about the environmental and social impact of Transport Sector activities on social groups. He called for a thorough review of the transport policies and exploration of sustainable and workable strategies and solutions, in other to attain the “Ghana Beyond Aid” status as envisaged by His Excellency, The President.
This year’s Transport Sector Review Conference was held at Takoradi in the Western Region with over one hundred participants in attendance.
